Flood Insurance

Protect Your Home from Floods

Flood insurance is beneficial when you’ve experienced a serious flood. It can help pay for repairs to buildings and certain contents damaged in a flood. Some policies even cover electronics, furniture and more. It depends on the type of coverage you have, and the specifics of the policy.

Flood insurance is available to anyone. It doesn’t matter if you live in a low-lying area, flood plain or even a non-typical flood zone – you can get the insurance. In fact, if the property is in a particular flood prone area, you may be required to purchase a policy. This is even more likely if your mortgage loan is backed by a federal agency such as FHA.

Some homeowners can purchase this insurance through a federal program. In order to qualify, the property owner must go through a private insurance agency. The policy becomes active 30 days after the policyholder makes a payment.

You don’t have to actually own the property to get flood insurance. Policies are for homeowners, renters, condo owners and business owners. Coverage varies, and policies range from low to high level coverage. The most extensive policies protect both the outside of your building and the valuables inside.

Flood insurance can come in handy when you least expect it. Just because you’ve never had a flood doesn’t mean you never will. All it takes is a few inches of floodwater to cause thousands of dollars in damage.

Most people think water is harmless, but floods are devastating. They’re just like other natural disasters. When you have flood insurance, you’re not stuck after a disaster waiting to see if the area is declared a state or federal disaster area in order to get assistance. Speak with an insurance agent about flood insurance.
